Awards and Recognition
GGJ Headline Sponsor Manticore Games added an extra challenge to their Diversifier Core Exercise offering a prize pool for the best games created at GGJ 2021 using the Core Engine. Manticore Games assembled a panel of industry experts who have selected their 10 favorites of the 113 games submitted to the Diversifier.
In the Global Game Jam, Dignity was selected among the top 10 games out of 113 games. The game received an award.
The Execution
I led a team of two developers and one designer to design and develop a video game prototype. I wrote a game story focusing on climate change, using the Manticore Games platform, within 48 hours.
Themes and Social Messages
Dignity is a short, unique game that conveys powerful social messages through its story, aimed at raising awareness about the global climate crisis. The protagonist wakes up in a world where some of his fundamental qualities have been lost, and through advanced technology, he tries to reclaim what he’s lost about his humanity by traveling back in time using portals.
Narrative Design / Storytelling
There are things I don't understand. It unsettles me… Isn’t it too hot in here? My throat is dry—I’m unbearably thirsty. But I must save the last drops I have for the journey ahead.
And what about me? Am I complete? No… far from it. I am fragmented, lost.
I miss it… I miss our home in the Tree of Life, where everything began. I miss the days when I drank cool water and plucked apples from its branches, when life was simple and whole.
Tell me—what is the one thing a person never forgets to see? Or do we lose ourselves, drifting in an endless void, undone by our own mistakes? If your answer is yes, then you, like me, have lost more than just your way—The pieces of what I once was... scattered, lost.
But time is slipping away. My last chance may lie within that final portal, soon to open. I can’t waste another moment. I must find what I’ve lost…
"Dignity" is a game design project developed and created by Arzu Celik, Cemre Altuncan, and Mert Baskaya. It is one of the top 10 favorite games selected by industry experts.
What is the next for project:
By bringing Dignity to XR platforms like Meta Quest, Vision PRO, HTC Vive, or PlayStation VR, the game could transform into an unforgettable narrative-driven and exploratory experience.
